Staples High School AP Computer Science students had the opportunity to welcome Mary Paul, Assistant Professor of the Practice in Theater at Wesleyan University, as the latest speaker in the ongoing Women in STEM series. Professor Paul, who serves as Production Manager and Technical Director for Wesleyan's Theater Department, shared her unique journey combining theatrical arts with computer programming to students last week.
During her presentation, Paul discussed her exploration of programming skills. Her interdisciplinary perspective highlighted how programming knowledge enhances creative fields like theater production through technical solutions and digital storytelling.
This visit continues the school's commitment to exposing students to diverse STEM role models. Earlier this month, the Science National Honor Society organized an event featuring Dr. Monika Chauhan, an engineer from ASML, and Dr. Evelyn H. Donroe, a rheumatologist at Yale Medicine, who shared their experiences with students in the school library.
The Women in STEM speaker series will continue throughout the semester as part of the Science National Honor Society's mission to introduce students to diverse career opportunities combining technology with various fields of interest.
