Exemplifying a commitment to fostering inclusivity and understanding, nearly 200 Staples High School students have been recognized for their commitment to achieving biliteracy in at least two languages.
The Global Seal of Biliteracy has been awarded to Staples students for proficiency in French, Mandarin Chinese, German, Latin, Italian, Spanish, Hebrew, Russian or Turkish. Validating language skills and expanding future opportunities for its recipients, this recognition offers three levels of certification: Functional Fluency, Working Fluency, and Professional Fluency, each serving a meaningful purpose in our increasingly diverse and interconnected world.
Staples High School also proudly awarded the Connecticut Seal of Biliteracy to students in French, Mandarin Chinese, German, Latin, Italian, Spanish, Hebrew, Russian or Turkish. The Seal is awarded based on proficiency assessments to evaluate reading comprehension, listening comprehension, and speaking and writing skills. These students will receive a designation on their final transcript, a seal on their Staples diploma and a recognition medal to wear at graduation.
"Our students have worked hard to develop their language skills and we are thrilled to see their efforts recognized with proficiency in biliteracy," said Maria Zachery, World Languages Coordinator. "These certifications celebrate their accomplishments, demonstrate their commitment to understanding through language and potentially opens doors for them in academia and the global job market."
