As part of the International Programs at Staples High School, 24 students explored the intersection of robotics, engineering and future cities during a nine-day STEM-focused trip to Japan last February.

Highlights from the trip include visits to the Tokyo Skytree, the tallest tower in Japan, Rinkai Park – the central base of operations for disaster prevention in Tokyo, the Miraikan National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation, and Tsukuba, including a tour of Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).

Students participated in cultural experiences including a traditional tea ceremony, a sushi making class and visits to Asakusa Temple, Hamarikyu Gardens, and Yamanashi to see Mt. Fuji, including a return trip on the bullet train.

Upcoming programs include a culinary tour of Italy this month and, next year, a photography tour of Greece and a science tour of Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. Trips are advertised to students throughout the year as they are planned.
