On April 7, Staples High School's library welcomed two distinguished female professionals as part of a Women in STEM event organized by the Science National Honor Society. Students had the opportunity to learn about diverse career paths in science and engineering fields from accomplished women who shared their educational journeys and professional experiences.

Participants heard from Dr. Monika Chauhan, an accomplished engineer from ASML. Dr. Chauhan shared insights about her educational journey and highlighted the challenges and rewards of pursuing engineering as a career path. Students interested in engineering fields engaged in a lively Q&A session, where Dr. Chauhan provided valuable advice about academic preparation and professional development in the engineering sector.

Students interested in medical careers had the privilege of hearing from Dr. Evelyn H. Donroe, a rheumatologist at Yale Medicine. Dr. Donroe discussed her educational pathway and the rigorous training required to earn both MD and PhD degrees. Her presentation offered valuable insights into the medical field. Students took full advantage of the Q&A session, asking questions about medical school applications, research opportunities, and work-life balance in the healthcare profession.

Both speakers emphasized the importance of perseverance, continuous learning, and finding mentors throughout one's educational and professional journey. The event provided students with real-world perspectives on STEM careers and inspired many to consider these challenging yet rewarding paths.

The Science National Honor Society plans to host additional career-focused events throughout the semester, continuing their mission to expose students to diverse opportunities in STEM fields.
