The Westport Public Schools is proud to announce that Dr. Wole Ogunkoya, a dedicated Staples High School social studies teacher and girls track and field assistant coach, has been crowned a national champion. Dr. Ogunkoya secured the gold medal in the M45-49 long jump at the 2026 USATF Masters Indoor Track & Field Championships, held February 19-22 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Competing against the nation's top masters athletes, his performance highlights a remarkable commitment to athletic excellence that mirrors his dedication to the Staples High School community.

The USATF Masters Indoor Championships feature the country’s premier athletes aged 25 and older, showcasing elite-level competition across various age divisions. These championships are a cornerstone of the American track and field circuit, drawing hundreds of competitors who balance professional careers with rigorous training schedules. By competing at this national level, Dr. Ogunkoya joins an elite group of "Masters" athletes who demonstrate that peak physical performance and competitive spirit continue well beyond the collegiate and professional years.
