Freshman Tucker Eklund has earned national recognition as the only 9th grader in the country to win the Sandra Day O'Connor Institute for American Democracy annual Civics Challenge for his entry, Crafting Change: The Art of Lawmaking in Congress.

In an impressive showing at the 2025 Connecticut STEM Fair, Staples High School (SHS) students demonstrated scientific talent, with multiple projects earning third place or higher. Under the mentorship of teacher Amy Parent, these researchers presented innovative work across multiple categories at the virtual event held February 1, 2025.
The library staff at Staples High School hosted a Black History Month trivia challenge that highlighted the contributions and achievements of Black Americans throughout history. Through spirited competition, participants deepened awareness and had fun along the way.
Staples High School German students showcased their skills and knowledge at the annual UCONN German Quiz Bowl, competing against other high school German programs and securing first place! In addition to the competition, students participated in target-language workshops and attended a presentation about opportunities to study German at UCONN, including dual-degree programs in business and engineering.
