Mathematics Competition

 

All interested Staples High School students are invited to take part in the 2023-24 American Mathematics Competition (AMC) 10/12 program sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA).  The exam is a 25- question, 75-minute, multiple choice examination in high school mathematics designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem-solving skills.

The test will be administered digitally, students will test on their own laptop computer in school.  It is recommended to take the competition on an updated version of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge on a laptop device (not a mobile phone or tablet).

In the Think/Ask classrooms of the Library Learning Commons (LLC)

Arrive early, the test begins promptly at 8:00am

Awards are given to high scoring students in each school.  This exam is the first in a series of competitions that eventually lead all the way to the prestigious Mathematical Olympiad in the Spring.

Interested students should contact Mrs. McCarthy in-person (room 1048) or by email skmccarthy@westportps.org to register, no later than November 10, 2023.  Requests for students with IEPs or 504s that have accommodations for timing extensions need to be received by Mrs. McCarthy no later than November 3rd. Come by anytime from 7:30 am to 3:00pm.
