Teaching Assistant Alternative

The purpose of a Teaching Assistant (TA) is for students to engage in a classroom experience as an apprentice to the teacher outside of the role as a student. A TA experience is intended to foster a student’s growth in a particular content area and help build lifelong skills with the guidance of a Teacher Mentor. The goal of a TA is experiential. There are no credits or grades associated with being a TA, nor will it appear on the student’s transcript. Serving as a TA is an excellent opportunity to gain leadership experience, obtain skills as it relates to teacher responsibilities, build a resume, and help a teacher to support a group of fellow students in their learning.

For more information and access to the plan/contract, contact your school counselor or TA coordinator, Ms. Karen Thompson, at kthompson@westportps.org
