Athletics & College Admissions

The Staples Guidance Department has created the Athletics in the College Admissions Process guide to assist student-athletes and their families as they navigate the college admissions and recruiting process. Information can be found regarding the recruiting timeline, NCAA eligibility, guidelines for contacting coaches, questions to ask, and samples of letters to coaches and athletic resumes.

The NCAA's official Guide for the College-Bound Student-Athlete is another excellent resource for students and families to utilize in their planning process.

NCAA Eligibility

Some Staples academic courses do not qualify as NCAA core courses and therefore cannot be used for NCAA initial eligibility certification. To assist with your academic planning, Staples has created a list of courses denied by NCAA. For additional information, visit the NCAA Eligibility Center web site.

Requesting a Transcript for NCAA

In order to determine eligibility, the NCAA requires an official transcript at the end of grade 11 and a final transcript after graduation from Staples. (Note: if you have attended more than one high school, you must request an official transcript separately from each high school.) In order to request a transcript to be sent to the NCAA, complete the NCAA Eligibility Center Transcript Release Form and return to transcript secretary, Susan Fugitt (sfugitt@westportps.org). The final transcript will be sent automatically for any student who requested their transcript to be sent at the end of grade 11; no additional request is necessary upon graduation.
